Silicon, gallium, indium, and germanium are among the most widelyused semiconductor materials. It has been estimated that Europe isable to supply only 1% of the raw materials required to producebatteries for the Green Deal; consequently, Europe imports themajority of electronic components from the Far East and the UnitedStates. Within the framework of the present research programme,the objective is to establish a strategic, circular raw-materials valuechain for chip and microelectronics production.
