LUMINE “Labor Unions, Migrant workers and ethnic Inequalities”
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
14/GSPS-05 - General Sociology
Description
LUMINE aims to explore how ethnic inequalities experienced by migrant workers in the labor market intersect with socio-political inequalities. LUMINE focuses on the union activities of low-skilled migrant workers in the logistics, agriculture, and hospitality sectors in Europe. The aim is to understand how union activities are associated with three key factors:1. individual characteristics; 2. characteristics of the union field and its capacity to include migrant workers; 3. opportunities or constraints created by national institutional arrangements in the contexts in which migrant workers live.Empirically, LUMINE focuses on five European countries—Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain—covering the period of two major recent crises: the 2008 economic recession and the COVID-19 pandemic.
