Molecular and functional characterization of bioactive compounds isolated from plant production waste products
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
05/BIOS-06 - Physiology, 05/BIOS-09 - Clinical Biochemistry And Clinical Molecular Biology
Description
This project idea is part of a strategic context of circular economy and sustainable innovation in the agro-industrial sector, responding to the growing need to reduce waste production. Specifically, this project aims to functionally characterize the by-products obtained from vegetable waste generated in the local agri-food chain, to identify possible bioactive molecules that have beneficial effects on human health. To this end, using cellular and molecular physiology techniques in healthy and cancerous colon cell models, health of the intestinal epithelium will be evaluated in the presence and absence of extracts derived from vegetable waste.
