Scientific-Disciplinary Group
07/AGRI-09 - Animal Science And Technology
Description
The research project aims to investigate precision nutritional strategies during the transition period to improve the health and performance of dairy cows, and to assess the effects of maternal supplementation on colostrum quality and calf health.Specifically, in vivo experimental trials will be conducted to evaluate the effects of supplementing specific nutrients during the pre- and postpartum periods on the metabolism, immune function, and performance of adult cows, as well as on colostrum quality and on the health and growth of their calves. The effects of these nutrients on fiber digestibility, milk composition, and the rumen microbiome will be assessed. The research will take place primarily at the teaching–experimenta facility of the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences, University of Bologna, as well as in commercial farms. Support will be provided for teaching activities during the Animal Production internship within the Veterinary Medicine degree program.
