Validation of HD-sEMG-based neuromodulation protocols for the optimization of upper limb rehabilitation.

Description
The project aims to validate innovative neuromodulation protocols for optimizing upper limb rehabilitation pathways, based on the analysis of spinal motor neuron pool activity within the arm-shoulder complex. Utilizing high-density surface electromyography (HD-sEMG), the correlation between motor neurons will be estimated during isometric contractions, using these neurophysiological markers to guide and personalize the neuromodulation intervention. Following an initial testing phase on healthy subjects, the trial involves clinical validation across two specific cohorts: oncology patients (breast cancer survivors) with shoulder functional deficits, and post-stroke patients presenting pathological flexor synergies. Finally, the therapeutic efficacy of these bioguided protocols will be evaluated by quantifying changes in neuromuscular markers, overall mobility, and range of motion assessed before and after treatment
