LoopLAB_Knitting technologies as cross-disciplinary design interfaces - 2026_IDR_DESIGN_5
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
08/CEAR-08 - Design, Architectural Technology, Architectural Engineering And Management Of Built Environment
Description
The research programme, framed within LoopLAB, investigates industrial knitting technologies as complex systems integrating design, programming, digital production and material behaviour. Knitting is adopted as a paradigmatic case to reflect on the relationship between design and advanced digital technologies.Activities include literature review, mapping of tools and processes, situated design experimentations with machines, software and hybrid tools, and analysis of interactions between designers, technologies and materials. The research will contribute to the definition of an interpretative framework of the knit design–technology system, with results disseminated through reports, visual materials, workshops, seminars and scientific publications.
