agmatism and neo-Kantianism in German 19th-century thought
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
11/PHIL-05 - History Of Philosophy
Description
The research will focus on the relationship between pragmatism and Neo-Kantianism in Germany during the second half of the nineteenth century. The initial hypothesis is that, in this context, elements of a pragmatist epistemology took root in particularly fruitful ways within a characteristic demand of early Neo-Kantianism: the naturalization of transcendental knowledge. The result of this fusion would have been a distinctive “German pragmatism,” characterized by features typical of German post-Kantianism. In particular, we will attempt to gain insight into this topic through an analytical and contextualized examination of the relationship between C. S. Peirce and C. von Sigwart.
