7/2026/CONTRATTO DI RICERCA - 3D characterization of Urban Heat Islands for the traceability of EO satellite data
Spoke 7 of the SpaceItUp project aims to validate satellite measurements of Urban Heat Islands by addressing the lack of accurate 3D in-situ thermal data. INRIM proposes using drones equipped with ultrasonic transmitters combined with ground LiDAR to measure the speed of sound in air, retrieving thermodynamic temperatures of targeted air volumes without the constraints of balloons or towers. The two-year roadmap spans prototyping, simulations, and field testing; the candidate will contribute to hardware development, testing, and data analysis
