Research contract in Arab-Christian Studies within the framework of the project

MASLAB investigates the transformations in the exercise of episcopal power within Christian communities in the Near East between the 7th and 10th centuries, against the backdrop of the transition from Byzantine and Sasanian rule to Islamic rule. Drawing on a diverse, multilingual corpus of sources, the project analyzes how episcopal authority, relational networks, and the resources available to bishops adapted, reorganized, and redefined themselves within the new political and religious frameworks of the Islamic Empire.The research position falls within the field of Arab-Christian studies, and the successful candidate will:- Conduct an individual research project on topics relevant to the project’s objectives, with a particular focus on the Coptic and/or Melkite Church;- Gather and analyze information from Arabic-language sources—including manuscripts—to compile a database and conduct a prosopographical study.
