Synthesis of fluorescent probes for the realization of an array to be used as sensor of pathogens

The research program focuses on the synthesis andapplication of fluorescent organic molecules for the development of an optical sensor array aimed at the early detection of pathogens in fresh fruit and vegetable products. The project involves the design of fluorescent probes with different photophysical properties and distinct interaction capabilities toward volatile organic compounds and chemical markers released during infection or spoilage. The selected molecules will beimmobilized onto solid supports to create a cross-reactive optical array capable of generating acharacteristic fluorescence fingerprint of the analyzed sample. The system will be evaluated using both model compounds and real matrices by assessing fluorescence intensity, stability, reproducibility, and discriminative performance, with the ultimate goal of developing a rapid, non-destructive screening tool.
