Models and methods for operations design and optimization in industrial production and logistics systems
The research activities will focus on complex production and logistics systems, with particular reference to intra- and inter-plant physical and information flows and to procurement, production, storage, material handling and distribution processes.Mathematical models, simulation methodologies and decision-support tools will be developed to assess system performance and identify efficient, resilient and sustainable system configurations and operating policies. The models and methods developed may address, among others, the design and sizing of production and logistics systems, material-flow planning and control, resource allocation, inventory management, storage and material-handling system configuration, production and transportation planning, and the optimization of economic, operational and environmental performance. The proposed methodologies will be validated through case studies and real-world industrial applications.
