Improving nitrogen fertilizer use efficiency for enhancing the sustainability of rice cropping systems

Current national and European directives aim at smart, sustainable and inclusive growth of agri-food systems, steering policies towards reducing mineral inputs, increasing the efficiency of nitrogen fertilizers, and decreasing losses. In this context, addressing the sustainability challenges of the rice-growing sector requires testing and disseminating sustainable and innovative agronomic practices capable of improving the efficiency of nitrogen fertilizers. This project aims to investigate the processes regulating nitrogen availability and losses in rice paddy soils as a function of various agronomic factors.
