Use of satellite data to estimate anthropogenic water use in support of climate studies

The researcher will contribute to the ESA (European Space Agency) CCI-AWU IMPRES (Climate Change Initiative – Anthropogenic Water Use IMProved Resolution) project by pursuing three key objectives. The first objective is to develop irrigation estimates (the main component of anthropogenic water use) using innovative 10-km and 1-km soil moisture products; the second involves validating these estimates by comparing them with in-situ data and model outputs. Finally, the third objective involves using satellite-derived irrigation estimates in climate studies to demonstrate their added value.
